AVID/TOPS Tutor Position, Fall 2012: Tutors facilitate high school students in collaborative in-class study groups, and evaluate student binders in the AVID/TOPS college readiness elective course. Tutors may also perform other AVID/TOPS related duties as assigned by the AVID Site Team. 

Work Schedule will be Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, during the academic day, additional AVID/TOPS site team meetings and trainings scheduled throughout the year. We require tutors work the same shift on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We will place tutors based on tutor availability and Madison Metropolitan High School needs. Position begins September, 2012.

Qualifications: Currently enrolled in a higher education program or have received at least a bachelor’s degree.  Proficiency in college level math, science, or Foreign Language, desirable. Previous experience working with youth is preferred.  Knowledge of AVID methodologies are a plus but not required. Compensation: $10 – $10.50 an hour, depending on AVID/TOPS experience.

The Urban Ecology Center is seeking an Assistant Facilities Coordinator: The primary role of this full time position is to support the Center’s mission by ensuring the Center’s facilities, equipment, and grounds are well-maintained and hospitable. This position is responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of the building, vehicles, and related grounds. The Assistant Facilities Coordinator will construct, repair and maintain various equipment and building systems, ensuring accurate and appropriate records are kept. The position works with volunteers, transitional job candidates and service learners to achieve their goals, as well as the goals of the Center. The Assistant Facilities Coordinator works under the direction of the Facilities Manager to set work goals and priorities, and communicates with the Branch Managers and other staff members regarding facility and grounds projects.

Requirements for the position include a high school diploma or GED and equivalent job experience, with an Associates degree in a technical field preferred; 2-5 years experience in custodial and/or commercial facility maintenance; knowledge about and willingness to follow good safety practices; ability to train, motivate and oversee others; a valid driver’s license and clean driving record; reliability; experience with the use and care of hand and power tools; computer skills; good problem solving skills; ability to take direction; mechanical skills; and ability to be a team player. The beginning pay is $ 12.50 an hour. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is currently recruiting to fill:

Urban & Regional Planner-Advanced (Waukesha/Southeast Region office): The URP-Adv positions are responsible for leading the production of consultant/ in-house corridor plans and studies utilizing sound transportation strategies. These studies develop environmentally acceptable transportation alternatives that address the concerns of the general public and elected officials. Products of these studies include but not limited to location study reports and final environmental impact statements that result in enumeration of transportation projects in the state budget. Extensive cooperation with local units of government and other state agencies is required in these duties.  In addition, Urban and Regional Planner Advanced positions within the Department of Transportation analyze data to determine priority corridors, participate in regional and statewide planning activities.

Training Officer – Senior: This position is responsible assessing training needs across the department, including the planning and developing training programs for WisDOT supervisors, managers and employees. The incumbent will provide and deliver classroom training programs to department employees, including programs such as employee development, leadership/supervisory development and e-learning training. The position also evaluates training opportunities and makes modifications to meet emerging department needs and issues. This evaluation includes reviewing training evaluations and gathering data from trainees on the applicability of training sessions. The Training Officer – Senior will assist the Training Director and Bureau Director in the development and management of performance measures on department training programs.
